In their article “Bring Back Home Economics!” the Journal of American Medicine calls for renewed support for FCS education stating that “If children are raised to feel uncomfortable in the kitchen, they will be at a disadvantage for life…” a disadvantage that could manifest as debt, obesity, poverty, diabetes, or worse.


Today FCS classes are the everyday application of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to real world circumstances, providing context for learning, and “soft skills” like the ability to create, collaborate, or communicate.
